Game developers at Rovio Entertainment announced plans Saturday to create an in-game experience about climate change. The game will debut in September to coincide with the U.N. General Assembly as world leaders discuss sustainability goals.
The hugely popular game "Angry Birds" is showing Earth Day some love this year.
Blanca Juti of Rovio Entertainment says the game company wanted to raise awareness in a fun way and make people think about climate change. Last year, they teamed up with Prince William's United for Wildlife to create a conservation-related game. That drew 10 million game sessions.
The Finnish game developers are also creating an Earth Day level in "Angry Birds" to debut Wednesday on the official Earth Day.

Rovio,Angry Birds Producer, lays off 110 staff

Rovio has announced that it will be making 110 staff -- of a global workforce of around 800 -- redundant in a company "reorganisation", as well as closing up its game development studio in Tampere, Finland.
The cuts, which were initially announced in early October, were fewer than anticipated, Rovio said.
"Rovio Entertainment Ltd has concluded employee negotiations announced on October 2nd this year. As a result, Rovio will reduce its workforce by less than the previously planned 130 employees," the company wrote in a statement.
"Rovio estimates that its workforce will be reduced by approximately 110 employees. As part of its reorganisation, several positions have been opened for internal applicants. The final number of employees impacted depends on how many of these new positions are filled. Rovio will consolidate all its Finland operations in Espoo, resulting in discontinuing the Tampere studio operations under Rovio."
The move follows the company's financial report earlier in the year, where it announced that its net profits for 2013 -- €26.9 million ($33 million)-- had more than halved from the net profits for 2012, which came in at €55.5 million. At the time, CFO Herkko Soininen attributed the drop to investments outside mobile gaming.
The company shot to prominence in 2009 with the release of Angry Birds for mobile, although it had previously developed a variety of games for other platforms. After the release of Angry Birds, however, the company concentrated most of its efforts around that franchise. It followed up with Angry Birds Seasons in 2010; Angry Birds Rio in 2011; Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Star Wars and Bad Piggies in 2012; Angry Birds Friends, Angry Birds Star Wars II and Angry Birds Go in 2013; and Angry Birds Epic, Angry Birds Stella and Angry Birds Transformers in 2014.
In addition, it launched its own cartoon channel, which hosts its own Angry Birds cartoons: Angry Birds Toons, Piggy Tales and Angry Birds; as well as physical toys, a board game and other merchandise such as soft drinks and candy.
"After three years of very strong growth, 2013 was a foundation-building year. We invested in new business areas, such as animation and video distribution, ventured into new business models in games, and consolidated our strong market position in consumer products licensing. With these investments we have been gearing up for the future growing markets," Soininen said.
The Angry Birds developer will retain its game development studio in Stockholm, Sweden, as well as its headquarters in Espoo, Finland, and its branch offices in Shanghai, China, Santa Monica, Calif., Seoul, South Korea, Tokyo, Japan and London.

Angry Birds Theme Park has open

The indoor activity park offers 26,000 square feet of exciting fun-packed games, activities and entertainment. The attractions are segmented for kids, youth and younger kids and toddlers, challenging their motor skills, cognitive skills, body control and speed reaction.   

According to Jonna Nummela, this park will be the fifth in a series of activity parks around the world and Rovio Entertainment is delighted that this new indoor activity park will be located in South -East Asia’s Johor Bharu. 

“We are very delighted to be able to bring the real-life world of Angry Birds to South-East Asia for the first time together with Johor Corporation and Damansara Assets. Their commitment to excellence and attention to detail have been part of this project from the beginning. We were able to build together a park that will delight our Fans”, she says.

Rovio, a Global Entertainment Media company released the Angry Birds game in December 2009 which have since become hugely popular worldwide.  

The indoor activity park will be located on the third floor of KOMTAR JBCC.  The opening hours are from 10 am to 10 pm daily.  As a safety precaution, children below 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the park. 

There are security cameras installed at various locations in the park.  Other services include shoe cabinets and locker on rental basis, complimentary wheelchairs upon request at the front desk on a first-come first-served basis, trained first-aid personnel, disabled-friendly facilities, and lost-and-found services.

6 There's an online shop for Angry Birds merchandise such as soft toys and clothing. This online shop also has Angry Birds pig merchandise. These items can also be found in video game shops as well.
7 You can buy Angry Birds Seasons with Christmas, Halloween, Valentines, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, and summer themed levels.
8 If you get a good shot, try to follow the dotted trail that the bird left behind.
9 Some levels can be passed by using just one bird only, some with 3-stars, some not (in this case, you need to use additional birds to destroy more objects to earn more points).
