Real Steel world robot boxing: The movie and the game

9game provided: Real Steel World Robot Boxing, the action mobile game, was released to the App Store by Indian developers, Jump Games as a tie-in to the boxing movie of the same name. The film has been released on October 7th, and as far as we can tell from trailers, combines Wolverine and Kate from Lost with an $80 million dollar budget and a likely drunken bet in the Hollywood production rings that they could get people to pay money to sit through a movie based onRock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.

Robot upgrades sound pretty cool, but these are statistical attribute upgrades only, so unfortunately there's no visible hardware add-ons for the robots. Also, your robotic upgrades don't appear in sparring or practice modes and once you exit a tournament your upgrades are lost altogether. Basically, the upgrades are only good for the current tournament.
However, if you manage to win the entire tournament, four additional robots are unlocked (making eight in total) and "hard" difficulty mode appears, whereas initially only easy and medium difficulties are available.
In 'free sparring' mode, you select a robot for yourself and your opponent (device), choose one of four locations and select a difficulty mode. The venues include a parking lot, the zoo, a saloon and crash palace. After that, the fighting is the same as tournament mode. In 'practice mode', the opponent doesn't move or strike back, allowing you to beat up some unresponsive hardware without any risk of damage. I wanted to completely thrash this defenseless opponent, but you can't destroy the metallic practice-dummy as it's health always quickly auto-restores back to full strength.
Movie tie-in's can sometimes be terrible games, rushed out to promote a movie, but this near-future robotic boxing game is reasonable-- Mostly because robots fighting makes for a decent game. The robot animations are pretty good, even if the background graphics seem a bit lifeless. Real Steel is currently the same price as Fight Night Champion which is a regular boxing game with more features, but if you're excited for the movie and enjoy the idea of robot-on-robot combat, this is the only official game for the movie.

Real Steel: World Robot Boxing Review

Reliance Games may feel there’s more life in the franchise to make Real Steel: World Robot Boxing for Android and you can download this action game at 9game. It’s free-to-play, simple to learn, and full of cool visuals, but some unfortunate design decisions keep it from being a knockout.
Real Steel World Robot Boxing
Challenging combats, but not punishing
In Real Steel World Robot Boxing, you will be using various robots to fight against fellow robots in the boxing ring. As of now there are a total of 24 robots divided into 4 tiers. Each tier represents the base strength of each robot;1st tier robots will have no chance against 2nd tier robots even when fully upgraded.
During fights you will be using a virtual controller on the bottom of the screen, with movement buttons and 4 other buttons, which are light attack, heavy attack, block, and special attack. Light and heavy attack buttons can be combined with movement buttons to change their attack, resulting in a total of 8 normal attacks and 1 special attack variation. This system is quite common in mobile fighting games, but the combat in this game is designed beautifully, and is very fluid and challenging.
Real Steel World Robot Boxing uses the energy system commonly found in free mobile and web games, where every time you fight you will lose one point energy, whether you win or lose, and if you run out you have to stop playing for a while. Every 10 minutes you get back one point, but you only start with five, which means that you have to wait 50 minutes to regain the energy used for just five fights. Obviously there is a way to restore your energy quicker, or even upgrade your energy capacity, but have probably guessed, you will need to get out your credit card to do it.
Robots in Real Steel movie are in the game
Real Steel World Boxing uses a side-scrolling system that will limit your movement to strictly left and right. The 3D models are designed very well, and if you watched the movie, you will be very pleased to see the robots from the movie appearing in the game.
In terms of graphics, the stages during the game are pretty horrible, almost comparable to fighting games on the first Playstation, where the backgrounds are pretty much crowd-shaped colored carton papers with a layer of low-resolution wallpaper as a background.
Final Verdict
Real Steel World Robot Boxing is a very good fighting game with a wonderful game design. Although the graphics aren’t too good, especially compared to other good Android games, there still aren’t many fighting games on mobile platforms that are as fluid and challenging as this game. The very disappointing thing in this game was its excessive in-app purchases, which made me feel that I needed to spend quite a lot of money to play unless I wanted to suffer.
